The Companion app for Red Dead Redemption 2on Android and iOS did state the mention of a PC version. There is now scent of a potential VR version in the code as well. In an independent datamine done by UploadVR, they spotted mention of the Oculus Rift in the code.
According to a new report by UploadVR, the companion app was further datamined and there was a line of code that references Oculus. This could only mean the Oculus Rift. One of the most popular VR Headsets currently available on the PC. Rockstar is not new to the world of VR as they released L.A Noire: The VR Case Files in mid-December of 2017.
While Bethesda is also no stranger to the world of VR, offering Skyrim and Fallout 4 in their entirety to the PC fans. Rockstar only offered select cases from L.A Noire into the VR version of the game. Whether or not Rockstar has plans of putting all ~60 hours of content into the game, with almost the same time available to just 100% the game. Whether Rockstar actually plans on delivering the VR experience for this incredible game is up to them and Take-Two.
Red Dead Redemption 2 VR – Will it Happen?
The game is currently playable in First-Person mode out of the box from beginning to end. This is different to Grand Theft Auto 5 as the original Xbox 360 and PS3 versions lacked the First-person view. Just like the PC version, this is just some line of code spotted in an official app. Whether anything comes from this or not is ultimately up to Take-Two and Rockstar Games.
With only a fresh release of the game, it will be about a year or so before Rockstar is even ready to talk about a PC version and possibly the VR version in the same timeframe. All of this is currently speculation at this point since video games do have lines of code unintentionally left in them that wouldn’t amount to any major announcement.
