VLC player is one of the most versatile media player available on multiple platforms including Android, Windows and Windows Phone and Mac OS X. VLC was also available on iOS but it was pulled back in September when iOS 8 was released.
Lead developer of iOS version of VLC has confirmed that VLC is returning to iOS “hopefully quite soon” . It would be coming in early 2015 hopefully according to some hints given on the discussion on official forum post.
According to VLC “It will be again, but probably early next year due to the iTunes Connect holiday shutdown.” and a TestFlight is also being launched “We will be launching a semi-public beta (aka TestFlight) of the next version shortly (review by Apple on that is more difficult than expected to say the least) and hope to go into production mode afterwards, but since this depends on things we don’t have direct influence on, I can’t give a release date. Sorry about that.”.
When VLC pulled back the app back in September it did not specify the reason that why is it pulling back. It could be some compatibility issue with iOS 8 and it is possible that Apple did not allow it to publish on App Store without full compatibility. But now it is coming back to the App Store pretty soon.
