Seagate launches World’s First 8TB Hard Drive

Seagate

Just couple of years ago 4 TB hard drives seemed huge in terms of capacity but today Seagate has released world’s first 8 TB hard drive for selected users. The drive has the largest storage capacity than any single drive on the earth.

A very large amount of data is now being created and stored so there is a need to make large capacity hard drives. And when it come to price, Hard Drives are the most cost effective way of storage. When we see at the $/ratio, hard drives are the cheapest medium of storage. The newly announced hard drive has the most effective power consumption to date.

Another popular company Western Digital uses Helium in its hard rives but Seagate uses a different technology. Seagate uses shingled magnetic recording technology. This drive pushes drive tracks together to maximize the space available on hard drive.

Here is a statement from Seagate’s vice president:
“As our world becomes more mobile, the number of devices we use to create and consume data is driving an explosive growth in unstructured data. This places increased pressure on cloud builders to look for innovative ways to build cost-effective, high capacity storage for both private and cloud-based data centers.”

As mentioned earlier, Hard Drive is currently available to selected customers and it will have wide scale availability in Q4,2014.
