It seems that Mortal Kombat 11 Comic Series might not be happening for this particular Netherrealms title. The comics started with Injustice 1, then continued with Mortal Kombat X and was last added to Injustice 2. The purpose of the comics was to get gamers excited for the impending game. This was confirmed by the previous writer of the comics, Shawn Kittelsen.
Mortal Kombat 11 Comic Series May Not Be Happening.
While we just know that Shawn won’t be behind the comics, it doesn’t necessarily mean there will be one. Considering the amount of time between announcement and release, it doesn’t look like a comic series for a prequel to Mortal Kombat 11 would be possible to distribute in time.
I have the fortunate problem of a full workload on MK11. Wasn’t always the case! The MKX comics were a big turning point for my life and career. I’ll always be grateful to MK fans for their support. I may not be working on new MK comics, but I haven’t forgotten the old ones. 🙂 pic.twitter.com/fgfKEGuSKk

While it is still up to Ed Boon and the people at Netherrealm Studios to decide on the fate of the comics, some surprise might actually do us good. The Mortal Kombat X comics gave away a lot of details and some early look at characters like Kung Jin and Erron Black. Some element of not knowing the roster beforehand would be a good change of pace, but that doesn’t mean the roster doesn’t get leaked by leakers.
Comics Might Be Shown At Reveal Event?
We will still have to wait for the big blowout reveal for the game on January 17, 2019. Where we might get some good news on the comic series, know more about the full game, DLC plans and more from the studio and Ed Boon himself.
Considering the only information we have on the game is just from the reveal trailer shown at The Game Awards, we can’t wait for more information on Mortal Kombat 11.
