All of us know that the iPhone 8 won’t be released until a couple a months now, but that hasn’t really been able to stop the rapidly increasing rumors and speculations about the phone’s design and features.
The release of iPhone 7, last year, didn’t succeed in getting people that thrilled, and was viewed as an upgrade that failed to do anything about the battery life issue. But, Apple aims to up its game and woo everyone with the advanced features it will incorporate in the iPhone 8. This year will also mark the time when Apple released its very first phone, 10 years ago, in 2007; giving Apple more of a reason to make a smartphone superior to the ones present in the market now.
Here’s a summary of all the recent news about iPhone 8:
- March-April 2017: Several rumors about the phone emerged in this time period. It was reported that Apple was procuring a 3D camera for the device, causing a possible delay in its release. A schematic leak online, revealed that the phone would have an all-screen front. Also, some analysts believed that there might not be a Touch ID sensor in the new phone, while some leaks suggested that the Touch ID sensor would rather be moving to the back of the device.
- May-June 2017: The design leaks during this time period unveiled that the new device would have a glossy design, in addition to its dual camera aligned vertically, rather than horizontally as we saw in the iPhone 7. Another interesting rumor was that the device may feature an in-built retina scanner, with would effectively replace the Touch ID sensor. Following this rumor, iDropNews, pointed towards an under screen fingerprint scanner, wireless charging support, front 3D camera for facial and iris recognition. It was also reported that the device would be equipped with Apple’s A11 chipset. Furthermore, it was claimed that only limited units would be launched in September, with better availability in October. Also, design leaks confirmed that there would be no home button or Touch ID sensor on the back of the device, and agreed with the under-screen fingerprint sensor rumors.
- July 2017: Bloomberg, added weight to the predictions that the iPhone 8 might ditch the Touch ID and reported that Apple is testing an “improved security system”, which could mean facial or iris recognition systems replacing the Touch ID one. There were also rumors that the device’s wireless charging accessory would be sold separately and might not be readily available when the phone is launched later this year. In addition to this, Forbes, claimed that the iPhone 8’s power button might be twice as big as the one on the iPhone 7, encouraging speculations that Apple may integrate Touch ID into the button, just like Sony. Recent rumors repeat the speculations of a delay in the release, and limited units at that time.
