If you have got new iPhone or iPad, you definitely need a tool to synchronize its contents with your computer either PC or Mac. You require a client that can back up the data on your iPhone or iPad or can restore the data. You need some software through which you can manage music and videos on your iPhone/iPad. Well, for all these necessities, Apple has got iTunes for us. It is a complete solution for your newly bought iOS device. Through iTunes, you can copy music/videos, manage your device and can make online purchases. Let’s learn how to use Apple iTunes.

Music/Videos:

Here you are going to learn how you can add music to your device. It’s quite simple! Here is what you need to do:

  1. Click the File menu.
  2. Now, click on ‘Add to Library’ (OS X) or ‘Add File/Folder to Library’ (Windows).
  3. Browse the file/folder that contains the music files.

You can also import audio/video files from a CD/DVD. iTunes also gives you drag-and-drop functionality. Just simply drop the music file or folder in iTunes’ window and you are done. You can also play music on your device through it. Additionally, you can create and manage playlists for your music files through it.

This does not end here. You can burn your music playlists to CD/DVDs too. All you need is to insert a blank CD-R, right click on the playlist, and select the option to burn it to the CD.

Device Management:

You can completely manage your device via iTunes. You can sync content between your device and PC/Mac. To do so, here are the steps that you need to follow,

  1. Connect your device with computer via USB cable.
  2. Launch iTunes.
  3. Click on your device to open its Summary page.
  4. Now, from the left sidebar, select the types of content that you want to sync.

You can sync all your apps, movies, TV shows, tones, info, photos etc. You can also check the remaining space on your device. That’s not all! The tool also enables you to backup and restore your data either to iTunes or to an encrypted file on computer.

You can even update your device iOS with iTunes. Following are the instructions that you need to follow to perform the job:

  1. Connect your device with computer via USB cable.
  2. Click on your device to open the Summary page.
  3. Backup your device before updating.
  4. Click the Update button.

If updated files are there, click either on ‘Download and Update’ or on ‘Download Only’ if you plan to install later. Afterwards, enter the passcode (if any) and wait for the process to complete.

Purchasing Online:

Other than above mentioned jobs, iTunes can help you in making purchases from App Store. You need to have Apple ID to purchase online. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Click on the Store menu.
  2. Now, select either ‘Sign In’ or ‘Create Apple ID’.
  3. Add the payment method.
  4. Once it is created, you can select your respective store.
  5. Browse the store for required content.
  6. Click on ‘Purchase’ or ‘Free’ to get your desired download.
