Nintendo Switch firmware 6.2.0 was said to be the end of the road for the homebrew scene and after 11 days, the homebrew community managed to conquer the firmware triumphantly with the release of Atmosphère 0.8.0. The new CFW offers all the previous features of its predecessors but the bonus is compatibility with the elusive firmware.

Atmosphère 0.8.0 – All your favorite Homebrew features on the latest FW

Overcoming the obstacle proved to be challenging for the Homebrew scene for quite some time. The firmware released almost 2 weeks ago and the community was almost stumped. It was only recently that a member of the community motezazer was able to break the complex protection on the FW.

With how 6.2.0 was cracked, it was only a matter of time before Atmosphere, the most popular CFW for the homebrew scene would eventually release a compatible version. One of the other key features of this release of Atmosphere is protecting the partition from malicious CFW, but this isn’t a 100% fool-proof protection, so the scene still advises caution.

Say what you will about homebrew, it does allow for some good stuff like locally backing up save data, running various retro console emulators, running modded versions of Half-Life and Doom 3, changing the different system sounds like unlocking the system, joycon attaching/removal and modding games on the Nintendo Switch for fun.

You can find the notes for Atmosphere 0.8.0 attached above. It is advised you jump to the latest version of Atmosphere to protect yourself from other malicious firmware and as such your Nintendo Switch. It is still advised that you keep your Nintendo Switch disconnected from the internet completely if you want to avoid a console ban on the system.

You can easily find guides on how to install the CFW on your Nintendo Switch with a plethora of guides online, so you don’t have to worry about being left out of the loop. Your system will still be ready to play Smash when it does release but make sure you know when and when not to connect to the internet.
