It was announced a few months back that Windows 10 will support the MKV (Matroska Multimedia Container) files playback natively. But users of Windows won’t have to wait long for the feature as Microsoft has updated the Video app in Windows 8 and 8.1 and it now supports playback of MKV files.
MKV file combines video, audio and subtitles into one file. So now you won’t have to download a separate media player like VLC media player to play MKV files separately as it is now supported by Windows itself through Windows 8 video app.
The Windows 8 video app has been updated for every supported hardware (32-bit and 64-bit). The MKV support was first brought to Xbox One earlier this year and now Windows also support them. Windows 10 will also support FLAC audio format but there are no words of support on Windows 10 yet.
To update the app, go to Windows Store.
