At Sept 30 event, Microsoft surprised all of us. The tech giant unveiled Windows 10 instead of much anticipated Windows 9. It is for the first time that the company has skipped a version number. Microsoft has made jump from 8.1 to 10, making the analysts to think regarding this tactic. It’s neither logical nor a mistake. Instead, it’s the company’s marketing approach regarding Windows platform.

As noticed by BusinessInsider, Microsoft’s new Windows Marketing Boss Tony Prophet made the following comment regarding Windows 9,

It came and it went.

The comment was made at the Dreamforce Conference in San Francisco. Further explaining this ‘jump’, he said,

Windows 10 is not going to be an incremental step from Window 8.1. Windows 10 is going to be a material step. We’re trying to create one platform, one eco-system that unites as many of the devices from the small embedded Internet of Things, through tablets, through phones, through PCs and, ultimately, into the Xbox.

Thus as a marketing perspective, a direct jump from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 was made. This gives the customers thoughts that something BIG is on its way. That surely is the unified Windows platform.

The company’s CEO Satya Nadella has also been saying the same regarding this ‘jump’. Furthermore, Tony Prophet revealed some figures regarding Windows 10 Technology Preview downloads.

The Windows 10 Tech Preview version was released two weeks ago and has already been downloaded 1 million times.

Have not yet downloaded the new Windows 10 Tech Preview? You can download it from here. I am anxiously waiting for the new unified Windows platform. Are you? Don’t miss to have your comments regarding this story.
