WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging service app and it proved that. CEO Jan Koum announced on its twitter profile today that it has crossed 600,000,000 monthly active users.
Like you can see he clearly mentioned that there is a huge difference between active and registered users. It has 600 million users that use the service at least once in a month. WhatsApp is a distant winner from its competitor WeChat which has 438 million monthly active users. Viber is another popular voice and instant messaging service app which has more than 100 million active users. So it is the clear winner in all instant messaging service apps.
Facebook acquired WhatsApp recently for $19 billion but even since then it is operating independently and has not changed much. CEO Jan Koum promised back then that they will keep running the app independently without any change.
And according to some rumors WhatsApp may feature voice chat in near future. If the rumors becomes true and WhatsApp does not let it service go down because of it, then it might give an even harder competition to VoIP services like Google Hangouts, Skype and Viber.
Are you among one of the monthly active users of WhatsApp?
