THQ Nordic has announced something very exciting today, that it has acquired rights to some of the most of the most influential console games of the early 2000s. TimeSplitters is now an IP owned by THQ Nordic, check out the details below.
THQ Nordic acquires TimeSplitters
TimeSplitters was developed by Free Radical Design, which later on became Deep Silver Dambuster, which is currently a subsidiary to THQ Nordic and now THQ Nordic itself owns the IP.
The franchise has three entries, the first came out back in 2000 for PlayStation 2 and the last entry called TimeSplitters: Future Perfect came out for the PlayStation 2, Gamecube and Xbox.
In addition to TimeSplitters, the rights to the science fiction action-adventure stealth game Second Sight which was published by Codemasters at the time of release were also acquired by THQ Nordic today.
We’re unsure what this means for both these IPs, it could mean that remasters of the games will be coming, a re-release of these games on Steam or GOG, or even a remake for the beloved games.
A possibility of a sequel is also there because TimeSplitters 4 was a project that never saw the light of day despite being highly anticipated and while Crytek got hold of Free Radical and the game was in development for a year, ultimately, the project was left unfinished.
I’m sure fans of the series will be excited to hear this, given how THQ Nordic is becoming one of the biggest gaming publishers, there’s a good chance that we’ll be seeing more content related to these games in the near future.
If you’re excited for Gamescom 2018, do check out the lineup for Focus Home Interactive as well and if you’re a Nintendo Switch user and are planning to buy Super Smash Bros Ultimate, make sure to check out its file size as well.
