Star Trek is the renowned American science fiction entertainment franchise which was created by Gene Roddenberry. The franchise is currently under the ownership of CBS and Paramount. Star Trek has seen many changes in its past. Starting from The Original Series (Movie) then the “The Next Generation” (TV Series) and then comes the “Reboot films” (Movie). And according to Variety, the latest movie of the Reboot Movies, Star Trek 3 will stay true to The Original Series.
Director Roberto Orci promises that the latest installment of the rebooted franchise will be like the original storyline of Star Trek. He said that it will head back in deep space.
“In this movie, they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen,”
Said Orci during a podcast for Geoff Boucer’s Humans From Earth. He also said,
“They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.”
This means that the USS Enterprise (the fictional starship used in Start Trek) will explore the universe rather than the San Francisco cityscape. This was not welcomed by the fans in the previous installments.
“In [‘Into Darkness’] they set out finally where the original series started,”
He said during the interview. He also said:
“The first two films – especially the 2009 [‘Star Trek’] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie.”
The sequel will mark Orci’s directorial debut. Orci, who also co-wrote the first two movies, will also pen in “Star Trek 3”. He also co-wrote “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and the first two “Transformers” movies.
Star Trek 3 is most likely to come to the big screen in 2016.
