Spice and Wolf VR for Nintendo Switch has been announced and it is the first upcoming 3d party VR game for the system. Labo VR is a very limited VR headset, but it seems that developers have taken a keen interest in its capabilities, and anime fits right into it.
Spice and Wolf VR for Nintendo Switch
Not much is known about the game, but they have launched a trailer showcasing how the game will feel and look through Nintendo’s VR component.
They’ve also shared a short description for the game, and it’s story, which you can read below
In order to achieve our dreams of entering the 2nd dimension, we will be working together with the original creators of Spice and Wolf to create a VR animation. Anime will evolve from something that is “seen” to something that is “experienced”… Kraft Lawrence is a traveling merchant who meets Holo, a beautiful woman who can transform into a wolf. As they travel together they face many hardships, such as having to walk in the rain. In order to avoid the sudden downpour, Holo and Lawrence take shelter in an old, abandoned water mill in the woods. They huddle around a small fire and enjoy a slightly strange but relaxing time together. You are able to share that time together with them.
Spice and Wolf is a Japanese light novel series written by Isuna Hasekura, and it was first published in 2006. It’s interesting to see how this medium will be used to bring anime to life, and VR is a growing industry, and while the Labo VR is limited, it’s clear that developers are interested in the technology.
Spice and Wolf VR Release Date
The game is headed to the Switch this summer and will be available via e-shop. The pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet.
We’re very interested to see more footage and demonstrations of this title and expect more developers to take interest in the device. Anime seems like the perfect match for a limited piece of hardware, as many smaller anime features can be brought to life, with minimum stress on the hardware itself.
We expect more animes to be adapted into this format in the coming future, as it seems like a good fit for the device and its specifications. One can’t expect titles like Beat Saber and Superhot to run on the Labo VR, but simple anime features will feel right at home with this.
