We have some very exciting news for Sony PS4 users. Sony has recently announced the launch of a Fortnite Cross Play Beta that will go live today. This development comes in response to PS4 players’ continual plea for the feature to be made available to users. Many such users have been eagerly awaiting an official response by Sony and now we have one.

According to the official announcement,
Following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third party content. We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution. The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.
So it is apparent that the cross-play feature will enable PS4 players to play with players from such platforms as Xbox, Windows, Mac and even Nintendo Switch. The game will go under extensive testing as players try the open beta and report back potential problems as well as improvements.
The cross-play feature is in a nascent stage right now and so patience is required from players as Sony works its way to optimizing the feature. Although Fornite is just a start we suspect that the cross-play feature may possibly be extended to other online shooters in the future.
