We recently did an article on a Rouyu Technology foldable smartphone which is the first ever to be released for the consumer market. In the past, we have seen Samsung tease their prototypes of flexible displays and it was a hot topic a few years ago, however, no substantial development took place in the idea of a foldable smartphone. Now we are finally seeing glimpses of the idea coming to life. Today, we have a rumor that an LG Foldable Smartphone will be announced at CES 2019.
LG Foldable Smartphone May Be Announced At CES 2019
The rumor comes from Evan Blass’ twitter who is known for leaking tech related news ahead of official announcements.
I can't speak for Samsung…
…but I do know that LG plans to unveil a foldable phone at its 2019 CES keynote.

Evan specified in his tweet that he is unsure about Samsung but LG plans to unveil a foldable phone at CES 2019. He mentioned Samsung because, as I previously said, the whole idea of a foldable smartphone was pioneered by them a few years back. Samsung came up with various prototypes as well which were displayed at different conferences. However, nothing became of those prototypes and the interest was lost for the most part.
With the advent of the modern smartphone, that has a bezel-less display and a notch or lack thereof, manufacturers seem to have let go of altering the current design. There is no incentive as well because the current form factor just works. Besides, is a foldable smartphone even a viable option from a durability standpoint? The extra moving parts may cause difficulties but who knows, perhaps with trial and error, a certain model will be released by a reputed manufacturer that will eventually change the game.
It is widely believed that Xiaomi and Huawei are also exploring this idea.
This is all for now, let us know in the comments what you think of this concept.
