It is pretty amusing how the Exynos-powered Samsung devices have always been thought of as less developer friendly, but now, their Snapdragon counterparts are getting harder to understand by every passing day! This was what happened with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge last year, and the same has happened with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ this year. Earlier this month, some highly talented developers were successful in getting these locked-down Samsung phones rooted. This method is now publicly available, and is (fittingly) called SamPWND.
The first time we heard about this breakthrough was on the 11th of August; but, there was no actual tutorial that would guide the users. The wait is over now, and there is a tutorial that focuses on the Galaxy S8+ (G955U and G955U1). However, this tutorial is also applicable on the Galaxy S8 (G950U and G950U1).
There is one important fact that needs to be kept in mind though, this method is not going to unlock your bootloader, because that is exploit-based. On the more positive side is the fact that the KNOX would not be tripped, so your warranty would remain intact as long as the device’s stock software is reflashed before sending it back.
Root Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+:
All credits to this amazing break through goes to the team behind SamPWND! In case you own a Snapdragon powered Galaxy S8 and S8+ and are in the mood to root it, check out this link for the XDA thread.
Feel free to tell us what you think about this new method!
