The PS4 is a breath of fresh air to the PlayStation Family, but to help deliver on that appeal, it has just been revealed that PS4 Global Shipments Are Now at 67.5 Million Units, meaning the company is eagerly anticipating the holiday seasons to take advantage of the massive stock waiting in the markets.
The PS4 towards the end of November 2013, and continues to give the competition a tough time in the market, especially the Nintendo Switch and the Xbox One. The PS4 is indeed a formidable console that is host to plenty of exclusives such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4, and many more.
According to information provided by the Q2 FY2017 Consolidated Financial Results from the Sony Corporation, worldwide total shipments of the Playstation 4 console have reached 67.5 million after the end of their second quarter (September 30th, 2017).
Sony is not a stranger to these numbers. Back in 2011, they struck gold with the PlayStation 2; a system that sold over 155 million units and became the first console in history to have one of its games cross over the million copy threshold in Japan. It was deemed the best-selling video game console of all time when it reached 500,000 sales in its launch in 2000.
To specify, 67.5 million Playstation 4 systems have been shipped and available for purchase in stores over the course of the console’s life, a number that is line with the amount of consoles manufactured. A total of 4.2 million Playstation 4 consoles were shipped during the second quarter, which is an increase of 0.3 from the same period last year.
This increase in Playstation 4 shipments comes as no surprise when you analyze the state of Sony at these time frames. When comparing the release of big first-party titles, the Playstation 4 has a surplus of big hitters that are slated for the coming year, 2018 in the form of Spider-Man, God of War, Detroit, Days Gone, and Ghost of Tsushima – all set for release in 2018.
Looking into the future of 2018, Sony forecasts that 18 or 19 million units will be shipped in the fiscal year of 2017, which begins on April 1st and ends on March 31st, 2018. If the projections are correct, there will be a total of 79 million Playstation 4 consoles shipped by March 2018 (about a 20% increase from the 67.5 million achievement in 2017).
With the holiday shopping season steadily creeping up, it is good that Sony has these in stock for them to meet the massive demand when they do arrive.
