Less than two weeks ago, Gamefreak developer Shigeru Ohmori said the company was treating Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon as an amalgamation of their work on the 3DS, marking the end of the series on that system but according to the new Pokemon Ultra Soon / Ultra Moon Trailer trailer that dropped today, Gamefreak keeps its promises:
Expanding on the idea of Ultra Wormholes and travel between dimensions and time from Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Moon somehow acts as a free-for-all – allowing trainers to interact with 20 years of Pokemon in a single game. The trailer confirms many speculated features and has left Pokemon fans gamefreaking out:
Legendary Pokemon – similar to the mechanic in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire where trainers could travel through portals made by the legendary Pokemon Hoopa – Ultra Sun and Moon allows trainers to enter Ultra Wormholes and travel to the habitats of legendary Pokemon. From Articuno to Zygarde, every non-Mythical legendary makes an appearance in the game. Of course, the giant list is split into two, with half of the legendaries being version exclusive beasts.
Still, allowing players to bag every since legendary Pokemon is a great way to end the series’ time on the 3DS. Compatible with Pokemon Bank, each of these legendaries can continue with you on your adventure as you play future titles on new consoles.
Team Rainbow Rocket – as the original baddie, it was a huge surprise to see Team Rocket’s Giovanni make an appearance in Alola. For those who remember the villain, Giovanni was last seen after his defeat in Heartgold and Soulsilver’s Tohjo Falls. He ignores his team’s calls from the Goldenrod Radio Tower and is never heard from again.
Fans have speculated that this Giovanni is actually not the same as the one seen in Generation II. Just like the legendary Pokemon, there is speculation that Giovanni, in addition to other leaders from the series, entered Alola through an Ultra Wormhole. While it is not confirmed, the ongoing theory is that these villains are actually from a dimension where they succeeded; not the game where the player thwarted their plans.
While it sounds overly complicated, this would explain the appearance of Mewtwo in Giovanni’s party. Back in 1999, Pokemon fans were shocked to learn that Giovanni had cloned the legendary Mew in an attempt to harness its power and rule over Kanto. The resulting Mewtwo, however, rebelled and broke away from its captors. However, if this Ultra Wormhole conspiracy can be believed, this Giovanni/Mewtwo pair can originate from a dimension where his plans were successful.
Battle Agency – existing similar to the Pokemon Stadium add-ons from years past, the Battle Agency looks to be a battling mode where the trainer can rent out powerful Pokemon to train and explore battling strategy. This feature takes the fun of competitive battling and removes the struggle of breeding and creating a team!
Totem Stickers – as a fun nod to the Grand Trails of Alola, Ultra Sun and Moon will feature Totem Stickers, a collectible that will allow trainers to play with a Totem-sized team. If bigger is better, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon is bound to be the best game to date. Keep a lookout for its release on the Nintendo 3DS on November 17th, 2017!
