It has been a week only since Microsoft released Office for iPad. The Office for iPad has the identical user interface as of Office for Windows. The Office has been downloaded more than 12 million times in just 1 week.
Microsoft seems to be very happy about this and Twitter account of Office tweeted about this.

This number is only number of downloads for viewing Office documents. Office for iPad is free for viewing the documents and presenting them but you need an Office 365 subscription to edit them. So Microsoft didn’t say anything about how many Office 365 subscriptions were sold.
Office 365 subscription starts at $9.99 per month, or $99 per year. With this subscription you also get 60 minutes of Skype, 20 GB of OneDrive storage calls per month, and access to Microsoft Access, Outlook and Publisher.
Office for iPhone is also free now but only for home and personal use. And for Android it does not need any kind of Office 365 subscription. The Office for iPad requires iOS 7.
