Nintendo Switch Online service launches this month, it is a paid service that allows you play multiplayer games, gives you access to various NES games and offers the option of Cloud Saves, but not entirely. Turns out some games will not support the Nintendo Cloud Saves feature, details below.
Nintendo Cloud Saves will not support all Switch Games
It seems that due to the delay in the recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo hasn’t been able to fully disclose details about it’s paid service, as some games do not support Cloud Saves if you go the store page of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and scroll to the bottom, you’ll find this message, as stated below
Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and Nintendo Account required for online play. This game does not support Save Data Cloud backup. Not available in all countries. Internet access required for online features. Terms apply. nintendo.com/switch-online.
This clearly states that this game does not support Cloud Saves, not only does this game display the message, but the following games apparently will also not support Cloud Saves, which is a very basic feature of paid online subscriptions, that even Steam has, which doesn’t even require a subscription
Nintendo has given a statement about this issue to gameinformer, which you can read below
"The vast majority of Nintendo Switch games will support Save Data Cloud backup. However, in certain games this feature would make it possible to, for example, regain items that had been traded to other players, or revert to a higher online multiplayer ranking that had been lost. To ensure fair play, Save Data Cloud backup may not be enabled for such games. To ensure that Save Data Cloud backups cannot be used to unfairly affect online multiplayer rankings, the feature will not be enabled in Splatoon 2."
