Nvidia has been on top of the notebook GPU game for a while now. Their Pascal Notebook GPU series can be found in all top-tier gaming laptops. Nvidia Mobile GPUs have always managed to remain on top of the game with their powerful gaming chips. Recently, however, a rumor has it that Nvidia will be releasing their Next-Gen Nvidia Mobile GPUs towards the end of 2018.
The rumor surfaced when an official Gigabyte UK Notebook representative by the name of Atom80, responded to a question on OverclockersUK forum. A member asked Atom80 whether anything new from Nvidia was bound to be released in the near future to which Atom80 responded
“Hi @scorpuk – the range coming in now will be stable and not having any additional refreshes until the next gen of GPU’s is announced. Currently scheduled more towards the end of the year.”
It is clear that Nvidia has something big for us in the works. We would sure like to see some even faster and more efficient chips in notebook format. Although the gaming laptops of today are far more advanced than we ever thought they would be, however, they are still pretty expensive and out of the reach of the average user. On top of that, a more efficient mobile GPU will also run cooler which is a big issue when it comes to gaming laptops. Any of the top tier gaming laptops tend to get very hot depending on how demanding the game is. More efficient chips will also add to battery life which is also a weak point in the world of gaming laptops.
Furthermore, Atom80 stated, in response to whether the Gigabyte Aero 15X will be receiving any upgraded variants, that there are no plans to upgrade the Aero notebook family until the next-generation GPUs are available.
