Well at one corner, you see the prices of smartphones going high and high due to addition of enhanced technology in them. But still, the low cost remains a factor. Not all the public can afford expensive handsets like Nokia Lumia series, Apple iPhone and Galaxy series. Considering the fact, Mozilla has gone in to a deal for the introduction of $25 smartphone running on Firefox OS.
We are well aware of the company MOZILLA i.e. one of the popular browser developer. Mozilla has announced a deal with a Chinese Shanghai-based fabless semiconductor company Spreadtrum Communications. The deal will lead to the design of the low-cost chipset. This low-cost chipset will pave its way to the making of $25 smartphone. The chipset will definitely be designed in accordance with Firefox OS.
Mozilla want to make its target the ‘emerging’ markets. The main objective of both companies is to hit cost sensitive countries like India, Indonesia, and Pakistan etc. In such countries, the people are quite willing to buy smartphones but unfortunately they can’t afford them. Mozilla is also in talks with various carriers i.e. Telenor, Indosat etc. At this point, this seems a dream but as the technology has advanced, we can expect anything to happen sooner or later. Let’s hope for the best. If it goes successfully, you will be going to have a SMARTPHONE for $25 only.
