If you haven’t made the leap to current-gen consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation 4 just yet and were looking for a way to enjoy Mortal Kombat X, it looks like you’re running out of luck or should I say you ran out of luck.
Warner Bros. has announced the cancellation of Mortal Kombat X for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, reports VG247, followed by major delays in the release of both systems.
It’s not too surprising, given the high quality of the game itself, and how much has obviously gone into its creation. Citing quality concerns that arose despite working on the title for an extended period of time, a community post shaded some light on the situation. The official statement goes more in-depth:
“We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned.“If you pre-ordered Mortal Kombat X for PS3 or Xbox 360, please go to the retail location where you pre-ordered the game and you will receive a full refund.”
At least there’s s plus, the gamers will be reimbursed for the purchases, but it also could signal a precedent that we’ll be seeing more of very in the industry: the fading out of last-gen consoles in favor of current-gen titles being heralded above others. Production of titles in now beginning to slow down for last-gen game so the focus can be put on the latest tech and what can be done to push the envelope.
Previously the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of Mortal Kombat X were expected to release this April with the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions, but they were delayed all the way to June, and then into the fall. It’s a shame that not everyone will be able to experience the excellent fighter but it’s just another reason to go ahead and jump into the present, right?
If you’ve got a console to check it out on, you should absolutely spend the money to get into the Mortal Kombat X game. If you were one of those affected by the cancellation of both earlier generations of consoles, consider upgrading – it’s totally worth it, especially with this fall’s roster.
