Two days back, Microsoft rolled out Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 for Preview users. Soon after the roll out, some users started complaining that they were not getting the update. The hTC 8X and 8S users did not get the update, at all. Some issues were also experienced on Lumia handsets.
Earlier it was expected that hTC needs to update its OEM drivers. So, the update is not possible on the handsets till it goes public via hTC source. Microsoft made this comment in their support forums regarding the issue,
There are a small set of devices for which we aren’t offering the latest build of the Developer Preview program due to an identified problem that requires mobile operator or OEM driver updates. These will be offered when the official update for your phone is available.
Now, it seems like Microsoft and hTC are working together on the fix. And we can hopefully get Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 on hTC 8X in a week or two. In a recent talk with WPCentral, Microsoft has put forward this stance,
We have paused delivery of Windows Phone 8.1 Update to customers with the HTC 8X and HTC 8S who are using the Preview for Developers. Microsoft and HTC have identified an issue and are actively working to fix it, and will resume delivery of the update once a fix is in place.
More recent leaks from forums has claimed that hTC 8S has come to an END i.e. no more updates. Therefore, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 is now being left out for this handset. This is due to incompetency of its hardware. Bad news, for sure!
Let’s hope the best as far as hTC 8X is concerned! Don’t miss to have your words regarding this news!
