Metal Gear Survive is an upcoming survival action adventure third person game that is a spin off of the Metal Gear Solid series directed by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. This is the first Metal Gear title where Hideo Kojima isn’t involved in since he’s left Konami and started his own company Kojima Productions. We now have Metal Gear Survive Single Player gameplay of around 5 minutes down below.
Base building, Weapon enhancements and Zombies
Most of the gamplay shown in the trailer is basically what you had in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, however there are new melee weapons that can be enhanced by combining with other materials, items and some gameplay elements like climbing tunnels, crafting equipment, gathering resources, basically adding survival mechanics that are seen in most zombie horror games like Dying Light or more survival oriented games like Tomb Raider. There’s a major emphasis on base building and upgrading it to unlock better defense systems like barricades, turrets and various traps. You can fight with hordes of zombies like in the Dead Rising games by taking minimal damage and you can actually spawn turrets by the use of wormholes that are a big element of this game. The zombies themselves aren’t quite original in design and from the trailer there isn’t really a variety of enemies, some look more mutated than the others but that’s about it.
The Engine
The game shines because of the absolutely brilliant Fox Engine used in Phantom Pain and there aren’t any visible graphical upgrades from the footage shown. Make no mistake, Metal Gear Survive has nothing to with the original franchise directly, it’s a survival co-op game through and through, thankfully with a single player campaign.
Hideo Kojima on Metal Gear Survive
Hideo Kojima has made his thoughts clear about the game, commenting that it has nothing to do with what Metal Gear stands for
Metal Gear Survive is coming out on PS4, Xbox One and Steam on 20th February, 2018. Will you be playing Metal Gear Survive and what do you think about it, let us know in the comments below.
