The LG G3 is not available around the globe. But it is available in its home, South Korea. And people have been buying the phone like crazy. In the first five days, LG’s latest flagship has passed the 100k unit mark. Which is remarkable.
While you though that the rival company’s flagship would outrun the Korean flagship by a comfortable margin. But that’s not the case. While this would probably happen over the lifetime, the G3 scored a perfect victory in its home market.
Starting from the beginning of the launch. LG has taken advantage of the shaky release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in South Korea. The LG G3 outsold its rival by a brilliant 3 to 1 ratio in the first few days of availability. According to the Korean sources, the Galaxy S5 sales over that period were in the 7000 – 8000. The LG G3 had a range of 25,000 – 30,000 units each day.
Last year’s LG G2 was around 10,000 units sold per day it its first 5 days. This means that the LG G3 is going as twice as good as its predecessor.
But LG’s choice of releasing the LG G3 in only the Korean market has its perks. The Samsung Galaxy S5 sold 10 million units in its first 25 days. This means that ~400k Galaxy S5 was sold each day. And yes the phone was available in 125 markets at launch. That’s a big number.
But of course. Apple is the true king of sales. The sale of Apple on an opening weekend was 5 million in just three days. Talk about that.
All in all, LG has created a beautiful device. A device that has a plastic body but feels steel and super thin bezel. And on top of that, it also has a beast running inside it. Let’s hope LG loses no more time and releases the beast in other markets as well.
