Kabaneri announced the release date for their upcoming Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: Unato Kessen anime movie. The movie is planned to hit the theatres in Spring of 2019 next year.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress Overview
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is an anime series by Wit Studio. The series was directed by Tetsurō Araki and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi, with music by Hiroyuki Sawano and original character designs by Haruhiko Mikimoto. Two compilation films premiered in Japanese theaters on December 31, 2016, and January 7, 2017.

The world is in the midst of the industrial revolution when horrific creatures emerge from a mysterious virus, ripping through the flesh of humans to sate their never-ending appetite. The only way to kill these beings, known as “Kabane,” is by destroying their steel-coated hearts. However, if bitten by one of these monsters, the victim is doomed to a fate worse than death, as the fallen rise once more to join the ranks of their fellow undead.
Only the most fortified of civilizations have survived this turmoil, as is the case with the island of Hinomoto, where mankind has created a massive wall to protect themselves from the endless hordes of Kabane. The only way into these giant fortresses is via heavily-armored trains, which are serviced and built by young men such as Ikoma. Having created a deadly weapon that he believes will easily pierce through the hearts of Kabane, Ikoma eagerly awaits the day when he will be able to fight using his new invention. Little does he know, however, that his chance will come much sooner than he expected…

The manga is confirmed to end in 3 more chapters however there is something more than just the ending of the manga. Since the manga is ending Kabaneri has something more for us in the store which is the upcoming 3rd movie for the series.

Characters list
- Ikoma
The main character of the series, who makes a living by working as a steamsmith at the Aragane Station. To defeat the Kabane he develops a bolt gun-like weapon with his friend Takumi. After the invasion of the Kabane, he successfully tests his gun against Kabane but gets bitten in the result. He is able to prevent the virus from reaching his brain by blocking his carotid arteries, transforming him into a Kabaneri.
- Mumei
A mysterious and anonymous girl who boards the hayajiro Kotetsujo and appears at Aragane Station. She is revealed to be a Kabaneri as well as a very strong and agile fighter, capable of killing dozens of Kabane with ease. She became a Kabaneri through a surgical operation as the result of her brainwashing by Biba, making her believe unless she became stronger, she would also end up like her mother. Constant fighting can leave her sleepy and like Ikoma, she requires blood to stop herself from attacking other people. Her birth name is Hozumi and she was named Mumei by Biba when he “saved” her as a child.
- Kurusu
A young samurai who serves the Yomogawa family as Ayame’s personal bodyguard. Among samurai his skill with a sword is considerable. He is usually somber and honest, and he maintains his honor as a samurai. Despite resenting Ikoma, he eventually recognizes the Kabaneri’s usefulness. He is later given a reinforced katana that can pierce a Kabane’s heart with ease. As a side note, Kurusu seems to have an attraction to Lady Ayame.
- Yukina
A crew member of the Kotetsujo. A stoic and taciturn girl who, despite being only an apprentice, becomes the Kotetsujo’s engineer and driver out of necessity.
- Sukari
A steam smith who lives at Aragane Station. Despite his aloof personality, he’s a good mechanic and a decent fighter.
- Kibito
A samurai who serves the Yomogawa family. Unlike other samurais, he’s reasonable and even friendly to the Kabaneri. He and his fellow samurai are later given reinforced bullets that can penetrate the Kabane more easily.
- Suzuki
The train’s chief mechanic who has hair like a 17th-century wig and speaks with English phrases. Also served as narrator for each episodes’ preview.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: Unato Kessen Anime Movie Release
Not much information has been revealed regarding the plot just the release date. The anime will be released next year in Summer, 2019.
