Legacy of the Original Game: Ikaruga on PC (Steam)
The original game received mixed, yet mostly positive reviews. Many players wanted the game to have a more thrilling and action packed experience. However, critics praised it for trying to revive a dead genre, by taking new and bold steps in design, gem mechanics and visuals. It was a shoot ’em up game for a new generation and did deliver on much of what was promised. The GameCube version was also generally well received. “innovative”, “clever”, and “unique” were some of the words associated with the game. It was voted as the 3rd best 2D shooter of all time by IGN. Hard Core Gaming 101 called it “one of the most remarkable shooters of all time.”. Indeed Ikaruga has cemented itself as a modern classic. Therefore Ikaruga on PS4 will be a joy for those owning the console

What made Ikaruga stand out from the other shoot ’em up games before and after it, was the introduction of the polarity mechanic. This added a new twist to the game play, and made it far from the simple shooter games that preceded it. The player’s ship can only be destroyed by bullets of opposing polarities, and some can even be absorbed by the player’s ship to energize the homing beam launcher, which was the special weapon on the ship. It is this mechanica that will Ikaruga for PS4, a really fun title to play and enjoy for new comers. Here is a video of the game play of Ikaruga
