The launch hasn’t been very smooth, and players are running into a bunch of issues.
Fix Warcraft 3 Reforged Black Screen at Launch Issue
Some players are running into a black screen after launching the game, and can at times hear the audio as well. You can fix this by following the instructions below.
Temporarily Uninstall/Disable third-party Security Software
Both Windows and Mac come with their own security software, and if you have additional antivirus software, try disabling or uninstalling those for now.
If you can’t uninstall it, either put the game in the exceptions or disable the software every time you run it.
Update your GPU Drivers
Make sure you are on the latest versions of your respective GPU.
Update your Operating System
Make sure that you are on the latest version of your respective operating system.
Launch Warcraft 3 Reforged in Windowed Mode
Try running the game in Windowed mode. To do that, follow the steps below.
Windows:
- Open up the user profile’s Documents folder
- Now, open the Warcraft III folder
- Afte this, open the Text Document labeled War3Preferences
- Scroll to the bottom and locate this line: windowmode=2
- Change the 2 to a 1 for Windowed Fullscreen or 0 for Windowed mode.
- Save the file (not save as just saving) then retry the game
Mac:
- Open the Go menu, then click Library
- In Library open the Application Support folder
- In Application Support, open Blizzard > Warcraft III
- Here, in the Warcraft III folder locate the Text Document listed as War3Preferences.txt
- Open the document and scroll all the way to the bottom, locate this line: windowmode=2
- Change the 2 to a 1 for Windowed Fullscreen or 0 for Windowed mode.
- Save the file then retry the game
