goTenna hardware comes both for Android and iPhones. It’s actually a sticky with an antenna. Your device will connect with the hardware via Bluetooth LE. Afterwards, you will be able to communicate with others having the hardware too, thus becoming wireless connectivity solution. The hardware has got its companion app too for both Android and iPhone. With app, you can have group chat with goTenna users, send messages to individuals and lot more. The app also have got offline maps. Through which, you can share your map coordinates too.
As per further details, the hardware can communicate up to a distance of 50 miles. However, the exact distance can vary depending on the obstacles in-between i.e. mountains. In terms of battery, goTenna hardware is not as good as one should have thought. You can have wireless connectivity solution for 30 hours of continuous usage and 72 hours of moderate usage. The hardware can be charged via micro-USB cable.
Till now, the hardware has got limited support. But, the company is developing a Software Development kit. The kit will make third party developers able to use this wireless network solution for their apps.
