Google has just updated its Terms and Services for its users. The changes will be applicable from November 11. The new terms and services allow Google to use your Profile name and photo for the purpose of recommendations, ads, reviews etc. Previously we have seen the introduction of hashtags in Google Search.
So if you are a regular user of Google and uses its services regularly which most of us does, by agreeing these terms, you allow Google to use your personal details. It eventually works on your feedback so if rated a movie 3 out of 5, your friend might see it when he searches for that particular movie. It seems that Google Search is becoming ‘social’.
Now the question is what’s the advantage of doing this? This will help the users to get the recommendations from the people he/she know. Moreover, it will also help Google to promote its social portal i.e. Plus.
However, definitely this feature is going to affect privacy. So if you are a user for whom ‘privacy’ matters a lot and you don’t want your Profile name and photo to be used for their ads/reviews, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to Shared Endorsement Setting page
Step 2: Sign in with your Google account(if required)
Step 3: Now, go down to ‘Setting: Shared Endorsements in Ads’
Step 4: Uncheck the box as shown in the below image:
Step 5: Click on ‘Save’ button
Thus, now Google will not show your details in Shared Endorsements. So what’s your opinion regarding this feature? Do share your opinions with us.
