At Google I/O 2014, the Tech Giant announced some new features for Google Docs, Slides and Sheets as part of Google Drive. Most of the features were taken from QuickOffice. Google acquired the mobile document editing software QuickOffice in 2012. And now it has reached towards its end!
When Google acquired QuickOffice, it was mentioned that the Tech Giant would integrate its features in its own apps however keeping the service running for few years. But now, Google will soon discontinue the service. Both the Android and iOS apps will also be removed.
With the integration of Quickoffice into the Google Docs, Sheets and Slides apps, the Quickoffice app will be unpublished from Google Play and the App Store in the coming weeks. Existing users with the app can continue to use it, but no features will be added and new users will not be able to install the app.
The iOS app of the service was last updated on 6th Jan while the Android one on 14th February. Once both the apps are removed, there will be no future update coming. It seems like Google is now exclusively focusing on its own document editing apps. We may see a complete word processing package from Google in near future! The package will surely compete with Microsoft Office!
What do you think, guys? Will you prefer Google Drive over Microsoft Office?
