Windows Phone 8.1 public release is just around the corners. Microsoft has added the WP 8.1 in ‘update history’ on its WP site. The update will begin rolling out in a week or two. Prior to that, Microsoft has brought a major update to Skype app for Windows Phone. Microsoft has now added Cortana support in the Skype app!

The update has brought the app version to 2.1. Just update your app. Once the update is installed, run the Cortana assistant. Now all you need is say something like that

Cortana assistant will automatically run the Skype with audio call dialing to the requested contact. You can also make video calls by just saying some words. Thanks to the Cortana support for Skype app!

Other than Cortana support, the app has got some other new features too. Here is the list of all added features:

  • Swipe down to see emails and texts
  • Find Skype updates in Action Center
  • Edit your last sent message
  • Support for 51 languages (previously the number was 19)
  • Performance Improvements in Skype’s Push Notifications

Well, surely a great update indeed before the official public launch of Windows Phone 8.1. Hopefully, we will be getting Cortana support for other apps too. Don’t have Skype yet? Here is the link,
