Foursquare app for Android and iOS is totally revamped. It is the biggest change to date. Foursquare was focused on location sharing since five years. But earlier this year Foursquare announced that it will be dividing its services in two major app. Swarm will be used for location sharing and Foursquare it self will be used for personalized suggestions.
Along with the totally redesigned interface for both Android and iOS, updated app brought personalized suggestions based on the taste of the user, past check-ins and tips from friends. You can select your tastes and preferences. Foursquare will then give you suggestions that matches best with your taste. User’s chosen tastes will be shown in pink at the bottom of a place recommendation. Users can still leave tips for others to help them get to the best place according to their taste. Leaving tips will earn them expertise points.
The updated app tracks your location every time. You can disable this feature by going into settings menu. Foursquare enabled this feature so that it can recommend you best places and best tips around you.
Foursquare announced on their announcement blog:
“The new Foursquare frees you from having to read long, random reviews, wondering if those people share your tastes. With Foursquare, find things based on your tastes, the places you like, and the friends and experts you trust most,”
The web version of Foursquare has also changed to find you places more easily.
CEO of Foursquare Dennis Crowley took this major move of separating Swarm and Foursquare. Swarm was launched in ma and it took all the features of original Foursquare that made it popular including badges,check-ins and location sharing with your friends. It now aims to be number q local search engine to find best places near you. The similar service is Yelp and Foursquare wants to take over it.
