In September, Google announced the introduction of Chrome apps for Windows, Android and iOS. According to the plan, Google was to introduce Chrome apps on Windows first and on other platforms, afterwards. Chrome apps, already, have reached Windows. But as far as Android and iOS are concerned, you don’t need to wait much.
Let’s have a look on some technicalities regarding Chrome apps arrival on Android and iOS. We all know that Google has been using Apache Cordova tools. The tools allows Chrome apps to operate with Windows environment via Chrome specific code. This tool can be used in the same way for Mobile platforms too where it will create Chrome app APIs for mobile support. Cordova plugins can be used to carry this function.
The project is under progress. Google is working on developers’ tools that will help in porting Chrome apps to Android and iOS. It seems that Google has reached the initial stage. A statement by Google’s Developer Advocate Joe Marini confirms it,
‘We hope to have something in beta form in January’
So the beta version of ‘hybrid’ app is not so far. We can see a beta version of such Chrome app next month. The addition of Chrome apps to Android and iOS will surely bring a great experience to the users. We will soon see Chrome apps on Android and iOS.
