In case you misread the subtitle, I assure you, you didn’t. An early version of the famed Cathedral Ward from Bloodborne was recently datamined from Dark Souls Remastered released only days ago for a number of platforms, but to add a further twist to this story, the assets can be opened in GTA 5. The miner by the name of Lance McDonlad (@manfightdragon) on Twitter even has Trevor driving around the unused map
You can see that this is indeed a whole new level of surprising. While finding materials of other games in a current game is nothing new, with my favorite example being an early version of Battlefront 3 spotted in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, this is the first time I have seen assets from one game being playable into a whole other game completely!
Cathedral Ward from Bloodborne in Dark Souls Remastered
Here’s a look at the early prototype of Bloodborne’s “Upper Cathedral Ward” map that was left behind in the Dark Souls REMASTERED files. It was created a long time ago back back when Dark Souls was in development. It’s not new work by the REMASTERED team. pic.twitter.com/BKBVGl1o8t

According to Lance, the assets are as old as 2011 and foreshadows the original game by a few years, it’s curious to see the changes that the level has gone through in the years leading to its release and how the final version of the Ward made it into the final game.
Along with Bloodborne, 2009’s Demons Soul also made an appearance in the datamining and showed Bolataria in all its untextured glory!

While these assets aren’t any indication of anything in the future for either the Souls games or Bloodborne, it is still an interesting find to see all of these unused assets as these are ordinary things you won’t find in an otherwise setting.
While I might not be an avid fan or player of the Souls games or the series, it is still humorous to see Trevor driving around these places and cuss while navigating their interior. Perhaps this can give Rockstar an idea for a new setting for GTA 6?
