In a recent development, Jason Schreier, news editor at Kotaku, confirmed that the Call of Duty 2019 game would be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The revelation regarding the game was first posted by a Twitter account named “LongSensationYT” and as expected, many thought it was a joke, hence Jason later sent out a tweet confirming the authenticity of the tweet.

Call of Duty 2019 is called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Soft Rebooting of Franchise

As surprising and illogical as it may seem, the confirmation does seem authentic given Jason Schreier position as a news editor at a highly reputed gaming website. Moreover, Jason went out to say that the Call of Duty 2019 game would be a “soft reboot” of the franchise meaning that the developers intend on introducing the classic COD experience to a new generation of gamers while preserving the key tenets of the game.

The aforementioned tweets can be read below:

As for the title, I will again reiterate that I don’t see any logical reason as to why they would go with the title name of the very first Modern Warfare game. It would only make sense to name it Modern Warfare 4 as the preceding title was named Modern Warfare 3 which was released in 2011. The choice of the title name is sure to cause confusion for many people down the road.

Apart from the title confirmation, we don’t have any new details regarding what the game would feature. Moreover, the soft reboot comment begs the question of whether we will see the reemergence of any characters from the previous games. Sadly, there are no such details regarding the story of the game yet so we would have to wait to know what exactly the devs have in stores for us.

Let me know in the comments what you think regarding the title of the upcoming Modern Warfare game.
