Borderlands 3 microtransactions got Randy Pitchford into a heated argument between him and Game Informer for lying about microtransactions.
Borderlands 3 is the upcoming first-person shooter game developed by Gearbox and published by 2K Games. The game is the fourth installment in the Borderlands and is planned to release on September 13th, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC via Epic Games Store. Yesterday 2K broadcasted the live gameplay to the world and despite Randy’s claim “The game will not have microtransactions” yet the gameplay showed rare cosmetics which got Randy into an argument with Andy Mcnamara for calling him out.
Borderlands 3 Microtransactions
According to Randy, Borderlands will not have any type of lootboxes or microtransactions. Microtransactions are the transactions in-game which allow the player to get top-notch gear like guns, armors and other stuff which gives a person a strong start in the game which is also known as “pay-to-win”. Randy on stage said Borderlands will not have stuff like that instead the players will be able to purchase cosmetics and other stuff which will not affect the game much like any other multiplayer game’s cosmetics (Dota 2 and Fortnite for instance).
Game Informer noticed during the gameplay reveal and called out Randy for lying about microtransactions. Andy accusing him of either not understanding what microtransactions are, or just looking for that on stage moment of saying “we’re not doing them!” (cheer), with Randy then acting hurt. Here’s a detailed conversation between Andy Mcnamara and Randy Pitchford.
