James Cameron managed to blow the world away in 2009 by releasing Avatar in cinemas and giving rise to the rebirth of 3D technology in cinemas once more. While the movie was a smashing success, the same could not be said for the movie-videogame tie-in released shortly after. For that matter, they rarely or never are. It seems that a new trademark filing suggests that the upcoming sequel to the 2009 movie has been named – Avatar: Pandora Rising.
Avatar: Pandora Rising The Best Video Game Movie Tie-In?
The first game had a lot of problems and failed to capture the attention of the audience the way the movie did so successfully, but with a studio that has a proven track record for making great games be able to change that image for this medium once and for all?
Pandora is the name of the fictional world where the events of the first movie take place. So Pandora Rising could mean that the game takes place on the same planet once more. A trademark filing that originated from Twentieth Century Fox suggests that Massive Entertainment, a Ubisoft Studio. Could be the lead developer on the game.
The most famous works of the studio include games like Far Cry 3, Tom Clancy’s: The Division 1 and 2, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, and many other strategy games like World in Conflict.
While it has been over 9 years now since the original movie, James Cameron has been pretty hush on the project and has yet to release further promotional material for the film in the form of trailers or other material. While a video game tie-in game hasn’t been done in a long while due to their lack of success, We can hope that a studio like Massive Entertainment has the knack to change that pattern.
While there is yet to be confirmation on whether or not the final movie will also be called Pandora Rising, we at least know the video game title.
