Assassin’s creed odyssey has been released just today and we already have a major problem on our hands. Players have complained that the game does not run on Gen 1 Intel processors. It is bad news for those who still run a first generation Intel “i” processor. Turns out, that the game will crash upon launch and currently there is no way around it.
After looking around on the internet, we have discovered that the game relies on AVX, a technology that is absent from first gen Intel “i” CPUs along with early Xeon processors. Currently, we have no reason to believe that Ubisoft will patch this in a future update. So, for now, those players who have earlier Intel processors will just have to wait and hope for the best.
Assassin’s creed odyssey Not Supported By First Gen Intel “i” CPUs.
We wish Ubisoft had mentioned this limitation of the game early on in the system requirements. It would have saved people the hassle of buying the game and downloading it only to find out that the game is not supported by their processor. Apparently, this problem is not just restricted to Assassin’s creed odyssey as it turns out players had the same problem with other Ubisoft Games as well such as The Crew 2 and Steep.
Many disappointed players have commented on different forums saying that they are going to get a refund for the game. Honestly, the whole AVX thing doesn’t make sense to us, in practical usage, the i7 960 is right at par with something like an i5 2400 performance wise, hell it even outperforms it in multicore performance, however, the former does not support the game while the latter does.
This is it for now, we will let you know if Ubisoft releases an official response to the problem.
