According to a report by our trusted sources, The Information, Google’s Android Silver program for state-of-the-art devices has been put on hold. Why? There are different speculations as to that. Some say that allegedly some employees of the search giant have expressed doubt about the success of Android Silver.
Google took a strong blow in July when Nikesh Arora, the Chief Business Officer departed from Google. Because of his departure, Android Silver was effected as well. Mr. Arora was in charge of overseeing Google’s partnerships with both hardware manufacturers and wireless carriers.
Not only that, but Google’s partners have also shared their doubt about the project. Overall, all signs point that we will have to make do with the Nexus family currently being processed and manufacture by LG.
Google’s current mobile efforts include the rollout of the Android One devices in India. The Android One family of devices consists of three devices as of yet. The first three phones to be launched are the Karbon Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1, and Spice Dream UNO. The Dream UNO is the cheapest of them all at INR6,299 ($103), while the Sparkle V costs INR6,399 ($105) and the Canvas A1 costs INR6,499 ($106).
All three phone are being sold exclusively through three different online stores. The Karbonn Sparkly V will be sold on Snapdeal, the Mircromax Canvas V1 through Amazon, and the Spice Dream UNO through Flipkart.
This particular project is a lot more lucrative than Android Silver, as it aims to bring smartphone experience to over a billion people in a low budget.
