According to MediaTek Vice President Mohit Brushan there could be a demand ranging from 1.5 million and 2 million of Android One smartphones by the end of the year in India.
If you do not know about the Android One series yet, have a brief look at them right here. His company is making the Cortex-A7-based chips for Micromax, Karbonn and Spice’s Android One smartphones.
Karbonn Spice
The design of the Karbonn phone is slightly different from that of other phones of the company. It is essentially the same phone under the hood with Google’s reference design. It has a 4.5-inch, 845×480 IPS display. 1.3GHz quad-core CPU and Mali 400 GPU, 1GB RAM, 4GB storage space with microSD card slot, 5 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front camera, dual-SIM support, 1,700mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat with guaranteed updates.
And it is one of the Android One series phone.
Spice Dream
The Spice Android One Dream UNO mi-498 specifications include MediaTek SoC with 1.3GHz quad-core CPU and Mali 400 GPU, a gig of RAM, and 4GB of built-in memory with microSD card slot. A 4.5” FWGA IPS display, 5MP main camera with LED flash, 2MP selfie unit, and dual-SIM support are also board. The device boots Android 4.4.4 out of the box.
The first Android One devices are using the MediaTek MT6582 chipset and cost between INR6,399 and INR7,000, which is bound to stir in the market. According to PwC India’s leader Mohammad Chowdhury, the main competition is priced above INR7,000.
The Android One smartphones may not be top notch but they promise to deliver timely software and hardware updates straight from Google. This is a serious platform by Google itself as they will be so much better than the pumped-up Android smartphones which do not receive OS updates at all.
