It’s not long before AMD’s Ryzen 2000 series, also known an Zen+ CPUs, hit the market. But according to a chief architect of Zen, he and his team are already working on AMD Zen 5.
Zen+ series of processors, that are coming out in a couple of weeks, are technically the second generation of AMD CPU’s, and we know about the Zen 3. So this Zen 5 that is supposedly under works already would be the fifth installment of processors from AMD.
In the above video you can see the Chief Architect for Zen talk about his work on the fifth installment of AMD CPUs. One peculiar thing is that there’s no mention of Zen 4 anywhere. And here we’re finding out that AMD is already working on Zen 5. So what about the Zen 4? One of the possible reasons the Zen 4 hasn’t been mentioned is that AMD is skipping the fourth generation. Many manufacturing companies do that because of the number 4 being unlucky; it’s synonymous to “death” in Chinese.
AMD Zen 5 Release Date:
According to AMD’s current roadmap, the Ryzen 2000 series is coming out this year, and the Zen 3 lineup of processors is scheduled for release in 2020. So we won’t be seeing the AMD Zen 5 in markets at least before 2021. Both Ryzen 2 and 3 are 7nm architecture. It remains to be seen what new additions the Zen 5 will bring to the table. They’re already working on this project, that means there must be something new coming.
