AMD has been really making it in the processors game for quite a while now. Especially with the rolling out of its Ryzen processors, people’s interest in AMD hardware has only gone up. The AMD Ryzen 5 and 3 were released back in 2017 and were loved by customers. Since then, we’ve been waiting to know about AMD Ryzen 2: The 2nd Generation.
Ryzen 2nd Generation chips are Pinnacle Ridge, they are made in Zen+ Microarchitecture. The benefit of using this architecture is that unlike the first generation of Ryzen Processors that were 14 nm, the second generation will be 12nm, making it more concise and as little space taking as possible.
AMD Ryzen 2 is set to be released on 19th April 2018. It features 4 new processors.
Specifications wise, these new processors look pretty powerful. They also come with a new 400 series AM4 chipset. AMD Ryzen 2 processors will still be compatible with the 300 series AM4 boards so no need to worry about incompatibility. These processors will primarily have 8 cores and 16 thread count. Talking about the Ryzen 7 2700X, sources report it having a 3.6 GHz base clock which would be boostable to 4.1 GHz. A leaked benchmarks review revealed that the 2700X performed 14% better than its predecessor in synthetic benchmarks and up to 4% better in gaming performance benchmarks. So we might not see too drastic changes in cores and general specifications, but the performance of these new series processors does seem better than the previous ones.
