Aamir Khan – father of 3 – who first appeared on screen as a child actor in his uncle’s Nasir Hussain’s film Yadoon Ki Baaraat (1973). Years past and there was no sign of the child actor again until the experimental film Holi (1984) which did not perform as well as expected. Then came the highly successful tragic romance movie, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) from which he began a full-time acting career.
With all Aamir Khan’s achievements like Lagaan, the recent PK, Taare Zameen Par, Dil Chahta Hai etc. include movies like Dhoom 3: Back in Action and Ghajini. The last movies I mentioned were indeed successful with mind bending stories, but were nothing else but rip-offs.
Why do I say this, let’s take a deeper view of these movies.
Ghajini (2008)
Before I start telling you how Ghajini is a rip-off, you need to know about memento first. Memento (which was nominated for 2 Oscars) was released in the year 2000, directed and written by Christopher Nolan along with his brother Jonathan Nolan (story). The movies rates a rocking 8.5/10 at IMDb and ranks at #44 in the Top 250.
The official synopsis of the movie is and I quote, “A man creates a strange system to help him remember things; so he can hunt for the murderer of his wife without his short-term memory loss being an obstacle.” Now Ghajini seems to be an awful a lot like this.
Sure Ghajini has its moments of life and happiness but all in all, it is the same vengeful, short-term-memory-losing as Memento.
Dhoom 3: Back in Action (2013)
Now here where things get interesting, with people thinking that they had enough of Aamir Khan’s mind bending, time twisting movies, they were in for a complete surprise. Dhoom 3 came and there was Dhoom everywhere, little that everyone knew that it is again a rip-off of the same director that directed Memento.
The Prestige (which was also nominated for 2 Oscars) which was released in the year of 2006 directed, produced, and written by Christopher Nolan along with his brother Jonathan Nolan (story). The movies rates a rocking 8.5/10 at IMDb and ranks at #52 in the Top 250.
The official synopsis states, “Two stage magicians engage in competitive one-upmanship in an attempt to create the ultimate stage illusion”. The story includes a person named Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) who has a twin brother, one which dies in the movie.
That’s not all. Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 also shows a joker sign, one he puts after his heists in the banks. Now I don’t have to be a rocket scientist but that clearly portrays Joker from The Dark Knight (2008) which is again directed, produced, and written by the same person.
According to what I am seeing, we can see a rip-off of Inception (2010) by the year 2017-2018 (I would really like to see Interstellar jammed up in it somehow, something like inception in an intergalactic spaceship).
