ThatGameCompany has finally shown 6 minutes of sky gameplay narrated by Jenova Chan, the creative director on the project. The game is set to come on Apple devices later this year with other platforms also planned for release.

In 2012, ThatGameCompany, a relatively small indie studio that released a number of PlayStation exclusives including Flower, released a game that represented video games as an art form. A feat that was previously achieved by Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2 by Fumito Ueda.

The game set records for the PS3 and truly showed how any one can create a masterful work of art, regardless of budget.

At this years E3, ThatGameCompany returned and announced Sky. Initially announced as an iOS Exclusive game and later confirmed to be a multi-platform release, the game finally has some gameplay released that gives us a first look at the game and what it is about.

ThatGameCompany’s Sky Gameplay Video:

We can see that the game has taken a lot of pages from Journey. You control a a uniform character that is without distinction so that the issue of who the player is controlling is thrown out of the window. You wake up in a mysterious land and are made to explore the world around you by illuminating it with light, a motif similar to that of Journey.

Unlike its predecessor however, the studio has focused on bringing players together as this time you don’t have to wait to encounter a wanderer as this time you can have friends and family join you as long as they own a copy of the game too on their respective iOS device.

Also, You can still encounter random people in the world if you wish, but unlike Journey, there are going to be puzzles which you can’t solve on your own and will have to seek the assistance of others.

It goes without saying that these 6 minutes are absolutely stunning to say the least, and while we can’t wait for the game to come out on iOS, we are equally excited to hear which platforms the game will roll out from when official details are revealed.

What are your thoughts so far on Sky? Do you think the studio can capture the world with magic again?
