The end of April saw a busy week for gamers. April 23rd saw Mortal Kombat 11 release on the PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One to a lot of good reviews. The game currently sits at a comfortable 83 points on Metacrtiic. Only 3 days later, we would expect a new IP from Sony to launch on the PS4 exclusively. This is where Days Gone chimes in. Sitting 11 points lower than Mortal Kombat 11 at 72 on Metacritic.

With the Days Gone, the numbers add up beautifully!

NetherRealm Studios has been busy this console generation. Where the Studio introduced Mortal Kombat 9 and the first Injustice to the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2011 and 2013 respectively, NetherRealm Studios managed to release Mortal Kombat X in 2015, Injustice 2 in 2017, and Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019.

Coming to Days Gone, we see Bend Studio, a first party studio to Sony mostly known for PSP games and the Syphon Filter games, at the helm. Days Gone takes place in post-apocalyptic and zombie-infested terrain of Oregon.

Both games have their faults and merits, but what is surprising is how despite the lesser reviews and platform availability of Days Gone, it still managed to outsell Mortal Kombat 11 in physical sales. According to GamesIndustry, the figures for the UK only account for physical copies sold in the UK. These do not include digital sales of any titles in the list.
