Rumors indicate the removal of Hardware back button and support for 10-inch Display in Windows Phone 8.1

As Microsoft is going to release Windows 8.1 next week, there are still few words regarding Windows Phone 8.1. Microsoft plans to release Windows Phone 8.1 early next year i.e. 2014. Here we have got some features and updates the new version will likely contain, let’s have a look.

First of all, Windows Phone 8.1 will remove the Hardware back button. The ‘back’ button is used to get back of the apps. By pressing it long, you can directly switch to the Home screen. So if this button is removed, you will have to perform these tasks with the Touchscreen Back button. Or there might be an addition of a ‘gesture’ for this purpose.

Microsoft also plans to make Windows Phone 8.1 supporting for large displays up to 10-inch. Currently, Microsoft is going to release GDR3 update which will support screen of 5 to 6 inches. Nokia Lumia 1520, going to release on 22nd of this month, is a 6-inch smartphone and will contain GDR3 update.

Moreover, Microsoft plans to introduce universal binaries for both Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows RT. This will enable them to merge the OS for both smartphones and tablets like Apple does for its iPhones and iPads. And also will enable the developers to release a single app for both smartphones and RT tablets. Windows Phone 8.1 also named as ‘Blue’ will also bring the Notification Centre, enhanced Multitasking view and a new Calendar interface.
