Earlier this year on the Mobile World Congress, Whatsapp CEO Jan Koum proclaimed that the widespread instant messaging app would also be getting Voice Call features. Well, some changes were quite expected when Facebook purchased WhatsApp. Meanwhile, at MWC 2014, VoIP feature for WhatsApp was also revealed.
In confirmation of it, we soon saw leaked screenshots of WhatsApp for iOS. The screenshots confirmed the Voice Calling feature for WhatsApp iOS. Now let’s come to WhatsApp for Windows Phone. The version will also soon get the VoIP feature. Coming in to details, those of you who have volunteered for the Hindi translation received some new translation requests this week. As shown below, the new entries of Incoming call, Outgoing call clearly point to the new feature.
By the way, those of you who are wondering what “Phone Aa Raha hai” means that Phone is ringing.
Seems like, the release is not so far. The VoIP feature will first arrive for Android and iOS versions followed by its release for Windows Phone and BlackBerry Platform. Either still not confirmed for BlackBerry yet!
WhatsApp is right now the most popular instant messaging app. But when the voice calling feature comes to it, it will have to compete against the big guns like Skype, especially for Windows Phone. Apart from that Viber is also a popular VoIP app.
