VLC Media Player is back on iOS, Download now

vlc media player for ios

VLC player is one of the most versatile media player available on multiple platforms including Android, Windows and Windows Phone and Mac OS X. VLC was also available on iOS, but it was pulled back in September when iOS 8 was released.

Lead developer of iOS version of VLC confirmed back in December that VLC is returning to iOS. And now the VLC media player is available on iOS once again. The new version is optimised for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screens and it supports a number of video formats including MKV files.

More features in new version include folder and passcode lock support, transfer of  files to an iOS device via iTunes File Sharing or via Wi-Fi through a web browser, direct stream from network support, upload media to Google Drive and Dropbox, subtitle support and AirPlay support.

When VLC pulled back the app back in September it did not specify the reason that why is it pulling back. It could be some compatibility issue with iOS 8 and it is possible that Apple did not allow it to publish on App Store without full compatibility. But after a long wait, VLC Media Player is back on iOS.

VLC is currently available in New Zealand App Store only. Availability in more stores is expected soon. Download it from the New Zealand Store below:
